Having a rope is one of the most important tools you will ever take rock climbing. These ropes are a little different than regular rope; rock-climbing rope is twisted lengths of a strong durable fiber inside and an outer covering of woven colored fibers. The core of the rope is the strongest and the covering ahs a layer that has the properties of something to hold onto.
There are different types of ropes; there are the static and dynamic ropes.
The dynamic ropes have a specific amount of elastic and are used as belay ropes. The rope being elastic is supposed to lessen the force of a fall should you happen to fall. Static ropes are not elastic at all and generally are used as sending equipment off the rocks. It also has a tendency to lessen the bounce of the rope as you are climbing down.
Carabiners are the metal hooks that have the spring-loaded opening; they are used in rock climbing as connectors. They are mostly used in recreation climbing and they are made from an aluminum material. There are several different kinds of carabiners but the one you want to use in rock climbing are the locking kind, they have a locking device so they can?t be opened.
Quickdraws are generally used by climber to secure the rope to an anchor for protection. They let the rope pass through with out any friction making it easier to scale down the rock.
A harness is very important in rock climbing, the basis is to secure a rope to the climber through a waist belt that allows them extra security especially fro first time climbers.
